Biography

Raechel is a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a graduate of Pius XI High School. She has been acting since she was in third grade (of her own free will, she did not have a stage mom who forced her to act young) and it has been her main passion in life ever since. She has acted in upwards of 30 productions since then. In the spring of 2005 she was spending alot of time at Bucketworks and Matt had suggested the idea a couple of times that they could possibly start a theater company through Bucketworks’ program. So one day, Raechel, Laura and John went to the Water Street Brewery (our booth) and talked it out over a variety of appetizers. We all knew that we wanted to do it (and those who know me know that I’m the kind of person who, when presented with a crazy idea tends to go “YEAH lets do it!!”) and so we basically just decided that we had to. There was no other choice really. It was a very historic moment that is sure to be found in all of our autobiographies one day. We then returned to Bucketworks, super excited, and told Matt that we wanted to make it happen. Yay we were starting a theater company! Now we had to pick a name. John and Laura thought that we should take the complete works of Shakespeare and open to random pages and point blindly at words until we found one that worked. After a while of this failing horribly (there are some wierd words in Shakespeare) Raechel finally said “why does it have to be from the complete works. couldnt it be from any book really?” And so she picked up a random Biology book that was for some reason on the book shelf at Bucketworks, opened it to a page and pointed to a word. The word was Primary, followed by Colors. So she said “Primary Colors” to John and Laura, mostly joking. Then they thought about it and were like…you know…thats not half bad. They didnt actually decide on it for another couple of weeks but in the end “Primary Colors” was the champion. With one addition of a “u” in colours by John. And it had to be spelled TheatRE. Cuz we’re snobs like that. From there they had lots of scary number meetings and started planning their first season of two shows. Waiting for Godot and No Exit. Rehearsals were held mainly at Raechel’s house. No Exit in the playroom upstairs and Godot in the basement downstairs. In fact rehearsals continued to be there even when Raechel was in Europe for two weeks because she gave John her keys. Raechel sold tickets and brought consessions for the shows. She also provided moral support, including sitting outside with Laura and Muse during one whole performance. Then Raechel sold her soul to Bucketworks for a while volunteering so that they could make sure that they had no debt on the plays. The highlight of this was definitely the M4 fest when she was there for 12 hours directing people to the two concert zones, talking to cute boys, and cleaning up after drunk folks. Raechel, John and Laura then planned an overly ambitious next season. Raechel compiled the schedules of pius, first stage, bucketworks ect. to pick shows and dates. They had lots of people who wanted to do shows with them. It was craziness. Many of the shows…changed their plans and such. Raechel kinda had to give a lot of money for a little while to stay running. But they ended up with a very excellent season of Junk, Picasso’s Women, the Glass Menagerie (in which Raechel played Laura), and Songs by Sondheim. Now they are making plans for next year. It’s all very exciting. Stay tuned to hear what happens next.
